FAMILY VISA:
- If you are an expatriate living in the UAE or on a residence visa, you are allowed to get your family with the help of a family visa.
- The educational background or profession will not be considered rather the income of the individual looking to sponsor his/her family will be considered. Be sure to check your visa status before you decide on sponsoring your family.
What are the requirements?
If you wish to sponsor your loved ones, you must fulfill the following conditions-
- Minimum salary of AED 4,000 per month or AED 3,000 per month plus accommodation for male expatriates.
- Minimum monthly salary of AED 6,000 for female expatriates.
- female residents in Abu Dhabi must have a residence permit stating she is a teacher, doctor, nurses, engineer, or other profession related to the medical sector.
- Family members above eighteen have to undergo medical testing at a health center approved by the government.
Who can you sponsor?
For a male expatriate to sponsor his family is a much easier process compared for a female expatriate to do so. The following members can be brought to the UAE-
- Wife: If you are a Muslim resident, you can sponsor both wives but you need to meet the conditions of the GDRFA.
- If a wife sponsors her husband, he can apply for a work permit.
- Daughter: Only if unmarried
- Son: Only up to the age of 18 and can be sponsored till the age of twenty-one if they are studying within the UAE or abroad. If studying abroad, he must enter UAE once in six months to avoid his visa getting canceled.
- Stepchild: Need a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the biological parent and visa is valid for one year and can be renewed.
- A single mother can sponsor her children if she gets a NOC from the father.
Please note since October 2018, students who graduate from secondary schools or universities or upon completion of 18 years will be granted a one-year residence visa that can be renewed.

Duration of family visa:
A family visa will be 3 years and has to be renewed thirty days before the expiry date. If the sponsor’s visa gets expired or is cancelled, then the visa will be void. They do get a grace period of thirty days so that they have a chance of applying for their residence visa.
When you sponsor your family, you have over two months to complete all the necessary formalities to convert their visa into a valid residence visa. You can get in touch with a typing centre to help with the process.
Children Visa:
